Stephen Mohl
director + writer
My roots in the film and television industry go back to 1977 with the formation of AVI Inc. which I co-founded with producer Steve Shelmire.  AVI was a pioneer in using video to create the promotional and educational programs that organizations had previously created on film.  AVI grew into a 10-person writing/directing team and ultimately became the creative arm of Videosmith, Inc., one of Philadelphia’s leading post-production houses throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s.

In 1985, I co-founded a second company, IntelliDisc Inc., while still at AVI.  IntelliDisc was an early developer of interactive videodisc programs for corporations such as AT&T, Armstrong World Industries, and Merck Sharp & Dohme.  Today’s interactive media grew out of the technologies promoted by IntelliDisc.

In 1991, I partnered with filmmaker John Connor to create American Filmworks.  American Filmworks became an Emmy® award-winning film and television production group specializing in documentaries focusing on American business and popular culture.

Today, I work as an independent writer and director creating videos, films, interactive, and web-based media.  Drawing on the sum of my experience and an unusually broad knowledge base I follow an intuitive, highly visual approach that often takes an unexpected path to the desired result.
